Job Description:

Purpose:

A global professional services firm within the legal sector is looking for a Compliance Assistant who is responsible to support the management of the firm’s compliance framework, including FICA, AML and POPI compliance processes, client due diligence and regulatory reporting

Key Job Outputs:

  • Managing all areas relating to the Firm’s FICA compliance, this will include:
    • Monitoring FICA requirements internally
    • Understanding and updating the Firm’s RMCP (as and when may be necessary), ensuring that the Risk-Based Approach is applied accordingly
    • Requesting and analysing client data and taking requisite steps in ensuring compliance
    • Monitoring and mitigating compliance risks associated with the Firm’s clients and ensuring risks are correctly categorised
    • Analysing client on boarding documentations and conducting additional enhanced diligence on clients deemed to be High Risk
    • Analyse and investigate STRs detected by the finance team and escalate to AML Compliance officer for reporting to the FICA
    • Reporting to the AML Compliance Officer on all areas relating to the Firm’s AML Compliance measures
  • Understanding the Firm’s POPI/PAIA Compliance measures and ensuring these are monitored on an ongoing basis. This will include:
    • Dealing with any POPI/PAIA related queries/requests in accordance with the Firm’s POPI and PAIA Manual
    • Reporting to the Firm’s POPI/PAIA Information Officer on all areas relating to the Firm’s POPI/PAIA Compliance measures
    • Keeping abreast of all developments relating to all areas of the Firm’s Compliance Requirements
    • Ensuring that appropriate registers are kept of all employee training relating to the Firm’s compliance requirements
    • Drafting and/or updating (as necessary) requisite policies relating to the Firm’s compliance requirements
    • Attending to ensure regular training is provided on the Firm’s Compliance Policies and Procedures

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports
  • Understanding of compliance processes and risk management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law and/or Accounting
  • Any compliance certifications advantageous

Experience:

  • At least 4 years’ experience working in a compliance team
