Purpose:


A leading financial institution is seeking a Heritage & Art Collections Manager to take ownership of a significant institutional archive and art collection. This is a rare opportunity to play a strategic role in preserving and shaping how an organisation’s history and cultural assets are curated, protected, and shared for future generations


This role goes beyond traditional heritage management—you’ll influence how legacy, identity, and storytelling come to life within a corporate environment, while also supporting the growth and visibility of South African artists


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management, preservation, and development of the organisation’s heritage and archival collections
  • Oversee the curation and stewardship of the corporate art collection
  • Drive research, exhibitions, and initiatives that enhance the visibility and relevance of the collection
  • Ensure appropriate conservation, restoration, and documentation practices
  • Provide expert guidance on heritage best practice across buildings, collections, and historical assets
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and governance frameworks
  • Ensure compliance with applicable heritage legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Manage budgets, vendors, and service providers to support collection care and sustainability
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, researchers, and external partners


Ideal Candidate

  • Background in Heritage Studies, History, Archaeology, Museum Studies, or related field
  • Experience in heritage, archives, museums, or collections management (corporate or institutional)
  • Strong understanding of heritage legislation and governance frameworks in South Africa
  • Ability to balance preservation, research, and strategic stakeholder engagement
  • Experience overseeing projects, budgets, or small teams
