Job Description:

Purpose:

A pharmaceutical manufacturing company is seeking a Maintenance Technician: Instrumentation and Electrical who is responsible to support GMP compliant manufacture of pharmaceutical products by ensuring maximum online time of process Utility services supplied to Manufacturing. Responsible for operation, maintenance, engineering projects, plant improvement, maintenance standby and planning of preventive maintenance activities on processes and process equipment within the Services department.

This Job is specific to the delivery of electrical and instrumentation expertise within engineering team. Cross-over skills within process control and/or instrumentation

Key Job Outputs:

  • Ensure the continued operation of the plant equipment
  • Performing routine checks of all equipment and systems for correct operation
  • Schedule maintenance activities as defined by the preventative maintenance plan
  • Facilitate the calibration of measuring and control instruments according to defined schedules and production requirements
  • Maintaining records and schedules for specified plant and equipment
  • Attend all breakdowns that happens during the night
  • Evaluate and facilitate repairs of plant equipment and identify actions to prevent recurrences
  • Analyse problems and determining required maintenance /repair work to ensure continuity
  • Prepare incident /deviation report and advising manager of steps taken
  • Liaise with third party contractors where repairs are not possible on site
  • Track and report on progress of repairs required
  • Monitor and advise on improvement of systems to prevent recurrences
  • Be able to do fault find without assistance and perform necessary repairs or propose solution
  • Be part of the standby team
  • Will be required to be on standby and you will be expected to attend to call out as per standby policy
  • You will be required to have your own transport to ensure that you can attend to call outs timely
  • Analyse breakdown situation, carrying out required maintenance / repair work to ensure continuity of production and if the problem remains unresolved, then advise respective supervisor/manager. The Department Manager will then agree on next steps with respect to product integrity
  • If the problem cannot be fixed, inform engineering supervisor or Production Services Engineer
  • Help operations with machine start-ups and checks. Be able to work on all technical fields with minimal assistance
  • Co-ordinate maintenance activities on COMPANY equipment
  • Perform isolations as per agreed protocols
  • Perform scheduled planned maintenance and complete necessary documentation
  • Records keeping
  • Planning and co-ordination within defined time frames

  • Ensures that all used spares are recorded in the stores
  • Suggest required spares where possible
  • Order required spares for particular job on time to minimise machine breakdown time

  • Provide first line training to operators
  • Provide practical demonstrations of equipment set up operation and close down
  • Evaluate competency of operators according to predefined standards
  • Assist operators in troubleshooting and development of their skills for first line maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Writing of maintenance and operating manuals for specified plant and equipment
  • Commissioning unit operations
  • Ensures execution of validation studies (IQ, OQ, PQ)
  • Ensures coordinate of commissioning activities

Qualifications:

  • N6 or S4 electrical or instrumentation engineering and trade tested Millwright or trade tested technician with minimum two trades in any of the following: Electrical or instrumentation or electromechanics
  • Or B-Tech degree in electrical or instrumentation and one trade test
  • Experience in PLC and SCADA system will be added advantage
  • Knowledge of SAP PM or similar will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of OSH Act as it pertains to electrical safety

Experience:

  • Three years’ work experience in a process and/or manufacturing environment
  • PLC programming and fault finding
  • GMP exposure preferred
  • Understanding of engineering principles
  • Able to read Piping and Instrumentation drawings
  • Report writing skills
  • Project and investigation work
  • 3 years’ experience working electrical installations as well as instrumentation
  • Experience in refrigeration and HVAC system
