Junior Data Scientist
Job Description:
Purpose:
A technology-focused company is seeking a Junior Data Scientist to work under the supervision of senior engineers, applying data science techniques to solve complex problems and support the underlying architecture of its systems. The role focuses on Data Science, Predictive Modelling and System Architecture, supporting the development and testing of predictive models, optimising data flows for scalability, integrating data science models into production systems, and performing technical investigations to identify root causes of performance issues and suggest architectural improvements
Key Job Outputs:
Data Science & Predictive Modelling
- Assist in developing and testing predictive models
- Perform exploratory data analysis
- Run statistical tests to uncover trends
System Logic & Architecture
- Help design and support the logical frameworks that power systems
- Ensure data flows are optimised for scalability
- Apply an understanding of how data models interact with software backends
Model Deployment
- Assist in the integration of data science models into production systems
- Monitor the performance of data science models
Technical Investigation
- Perform deep-dive analyses on system data
- Identify root causes for performance issues
- Suggest architectural improvements
General Responsibilities
- Conform with the company’s code of conduct, regulations, instructions and procedures
- Protect and promote the business, reputation and goodwill of the company
- Attend meetings when requested by management
- Perform any other reasonable duties and tasks on an ad-hoc basis
Core Competencies:
- Analytical mindset focused on extracting value from raw data
- Understanding of statistical methods and machine learning fundamentals
- Familiarity with system architecture principles
- Ability to understand how data models interact with software backends
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python
- Ability to work under the supervision of senior engineers
- Ability to support the underlying architecture of systems
- Ability to perform technical investigations and identify root causes of performance issues
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related field
- Relevant coursework or certifications in Data Science, Machine Learning, Python, SQL, or Statistical Analysis will be advantageous
Experience:
- Experience developing and testing predictive models
- Experience performing exploratory data analysis
- Experience running statistical tests to uncover trends
- Experience with system architecture principles and data models interacting with software backends
- Experience with integration of data science models into production systems and monitoring their performance
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with a focus on libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or Scikit-learn
